Editorial Policy

This page sets out the standard every recipe and guide on Bensparks is held to — how it gets researched, written, tested and corrected.

Recipe standards

  • Every recipe lists measured quantities, the equipment it actually requires, and steps numbered for sequence.
  • Prep and cook times are timed for a home kitchen, not a professional line.
  • A technique prone to error — batter consistency, oil temperature, fermentation — gets explained in the recipe or linked to its own technique guide.
  • Common mistakes, substitutions and spice-level adjustments appear only where they add real value, not as padding.

Regional and historical accuracy

India's snack and street-food traditions split into many distinct regional cuisines, and this library keeps that distinction instead of flattening everything into one national label. An origin section reflects what is reasonably documented or widely agreed on among food writers and historians. When an origin is disputed, claimed by several regions, or simply unverifiable, that uncertainty is stated outright rather than smoothed into one confident line.

No invented nutrition or health claims

No calorie count, macronutrient breakdown or other nutritional figure appears here, because none of it has been lab-verified for these specific recipes, and presenting an estimate as fact would mislead readers. The same logic rules out specific medical or health claims about ingredients. A traditional belief about a spice can be mentioned as a cultural note, but it is never framed as medical advice.

Food safety

A recipe that involves raw meat, poultry, dairy, eggs or deep frying carries the food-safety guidance it needs: safe internal temperatures, safe handling steps, storage windows. Unsafe oil reuse — reheating past the smoke point, storing it wrong — is never advised.

Images

Every photo on this site was either shot for it directly or licensed properly for it — nothing is hot-linked from another server. A dish without its own photo gets a designed placeholder rather than a stock or unrelated substitute, so no image misrepresents what the finished dish actually looks like.

No fabricated reviews or endorsements

No user reviews, star ratings or quotes attributed to chefs or home cooks appear on this site. An endorsement from a named person only counts as real when that person and the context behind it can be verified.

Corrections and updates

A factual error, a bad measurement, or a disputed regional claim can be flagged through the Corrections page. Every report gets checked against the original recipe and, where it matters, against outside sources before anything changes. A well-supported disagreement over regional variation usually gets resolved by adding context, not by deleting one version in favor of another.
